Block, the self-proclaimed transparency champion, has launched his third gubernatorial bid. He’s running as an independent. Or maybe under a new party. His previous runs in 2010 and 2014 went nowhere. Why should 2026 be any different?
The GoLocalProv Echo Chamber: A Familiar Tune
GoLocalProv, which inexplicably crowned Block “Man of the Year” just months ago, has become Block’s personal megaphone. They peddle his “fiscal responsibility” and “government transparency” talking points with an almost evangelical fervor. But where’s the substance? Where are the details beyond vague promises and recycled slogans?
The public isn’t fooled. Social media is awash with indifference, not outrage. Reddit users, ever the voice of unfiltered public opinion, mock him as “that Trump fraud-hunter who found nada.” They call him a “perennial candidate.” His political endeavors feel less like genuine campaigns and more like an annual tradition, like the first robin of spring – predictable, but ultimately unremarkable.

Following the Money, Finding the Motive: More Than Just Public Service?
Block claims to be an outsider. Yet, his political ambitions are deeply intertwined with his personal finances. He’s previously poured his own money into these quixotic quests. How much will he spend this time? Will he bankroll another vanity project, or does he genuinely believe this time will be different?
He initially made a name for himself investigating election fraud. He then wrote a book, Disproven (2024), which, conveniently, blamed moderate Republicans for Trump’s loss. Now, he’s pivoted to Rhode Island’s bridge failures and “master-lever scams.” It’s a remarkably convenient shift, always chasing the next perceived crisis to latch onto.
“I’m running for Governor because Rhode Islanders deserve a government that is transparent, accountable, and focused on their financial well-being, not political games.” – Ken Block, as reported by GoLocalProv.
“Political games” is rich coming from Block. His entire career feels like a political game. It’s a game where he’s constantly auditioning for a role no one seems to want him to play. Is he truly committed to public service, or is this just an elaborate, self-funded performance?
The “Spoiler” That Never Spoilers: A Distraction We Can’t Afford
Block’s previous campaigns failed to gain any real traction. He didn’t win. He barely impacted the races, often pulling less than 5% of the vote. Yet, the media, particularly GoLocalProv, continues to treat him as a serious contender. Why? Because he provides easy headlines. He’s a reliable source of anti-establishment rhetoric, even if that rhetoric often lacks actionable solutions.
Is Block truly an “anti-establishment” candidate, or just a different flavor of it? He criticizes “political insiders” while being one himself, having run for statewide office multiple times. He rails against “waste and corruption” but offers no concrete, achievable solutions beyond platitudes. We’ve heard it all before.
Rhode Islanders are tired of the same old song and dance. We need a governor who will tackle the state’s crushing property taxes, our crumbling infrastructure, and the entrenched corruption that plagues our state. We need someone who isn’t using the governor’s office as a personal platform for self-aggrandizement. We need a leader, not a perpetual candidate.
Ken Block’s campaign isn’t a “shake-up.” It’s a distraction we simply cannot afford. Rhode Island deserves better than another ego trip from a man who refuses to quit. It’s time for Block to finally get the message: His political ship sailed long ago, and it’s time to let it sink.
